Raised in Pittsburg, Cali, DJ LP (Leslie Perez) was introduced to Wild 107.7(currently now is Wild 94.9) during the late 90's. LP had turned in a demo tape to mix on Wild which got him entered into the battle of the do’s. From there the door opened wide for him. That is when he met St. John (afternoon jock) and started answering phones for him. "Mixing was always a thing for me. I would wake up early in the morning to practice and when I would get home from school I would keep mixing. There was a time that my mom would take my needles with her to work so I would take a break from it. She didn’t know that I had that back up pair. Mixing since the 7th grade, I played dances, house parties, weddings, and quincenera’s."

“Soon then as time progressed I started to reach out to Jazzy Jim who was the mix show coordinator at the time. I kept giving him mix tapes until one day he called me and said he was putting me on at 7:30 at night as a guest dj. From there that led me to a 4 am slot, which I did not care as long as I was mixing on the air. Then eventually, I got to mix the midnight slot."

"During that period of djing there were so many styles of music out there. That for me I was told by Jazzy Jim “if you wanted to be the best you had to play it all” From hip-hop to freestyle, Latin house, techno, reggae. Every genre of music was big, it all depended on where you played at. From San Jose to San Francisco you had to have it all. That is was separated me from other dj’s, they could only play one style or were afraid to step up and take the challenge. Challenges is what made the dj like myself stand out and get recognized."
"I never realized how much money a dj could make at clubs. There was a time when I was doing a club 4-5 days a week. I wasn’t getting paid at the station at the time so yeah I was out there hustling making mix tapes and passing them to club promoters.

As years passed on I eventually slid into the 8 o’clock mix. Then after came the 5 o’clock traffic jam."

His passion for music will never end. From mix show coordinator to now assistant music director. His goal is to grow and learn the trade more & more. It is always good to get out to the streets and see what they are talking about or what they are feeling. A lot of music buzz comes from the kids. From videos I pod’s to mix tapes floating around, the streets are up on there game. That is where sometimes you have to go to get that true feedback.
