SVA

SVA

There is a subtle transformation happening in Hip Hop that is not so quietly changing the dynamics of sound heard on today’s radio. As genres change, there are a handful of new young artists with senses of poetics and flow that are setting new standards. Demonstrating in-depth style similar to the intriguing lyrical acrobatics learned from 2-Pac, Snoop, NWA, Rakim, and Jay-Z, this new generation of lyricists/rappers is inspiring their audience to just listen, relate and groove.

Street-savvy and decisive, SVA’s AB, RJ and Jayson add a fresh, poised voice to the game. At the center of today’s trend, as if they have always been there, SVA has emerged with a self-produced, self-written album that feels as if it could be a “breakthrough” album by a veteran. Instead, SVA proclaims not just the arrival of natural-born lyricists, but also rappers who get straight to point with every verse.

SVA

Determined, confident - but never cocky, SVA possesses an overwhelming range of vocal versatility, each with the ability to consistently spark reaction from their rhymes set to their music while eclectic samples pay homage to their heroes. Their verbal delivery is stunning and fierce on their somewhat demanding “No 1 Else,” where they summons Minnie Ripperton’s “Loving You.” Following is the seemingly serenading track, “Cryin’ 4 More,” where we witness a relaxed lyrical finesse that has nothing to do with the perfectly-placed Rick James and Smokey Robinson sample “Ebony Eyes.”

While sampling Luther Ingram’s “If Loving You is Wrong, I Don’t Wanna Be Right,” a powerful, irresistibly head-bopping beat, accompanied by their personal story, make “I Don’t Wanna” SVA’s anthem, which explains the daily hustle of going against all odds to make it as a “new artist.” And, just when you thought these guys were new to the business, “Edge Of the Industry” blatantly conveys their profound knowledge and experience over another crisp, adrenaline-pumping track - making dreamers, newcomers and veterans feel at one with each other.

RJ, a self-trained recording engineer, has a reputation for being the “freaky” one of the group. Accomplishment has always been the first thing on RJ’s mind. He is so focused on SVA’s career that he built The Range studio, where the group does all of their work while RJ records and produces their unique, fresh sound. He has studied and worked with a variety of reputable engineers in many renowned studios.

SVAJayson Bhorn, a very street-savvy hustler, is the verbal assassin of the group. His pretty boy charm combined with his gangster-slick metaphors gives SVA their raw street edge. He is the voice of the group, being very outgoing and forthright about everything. Jay makes most of the connections for SVA and uses his relationships to create opportunities for his group. “This is a business where we can’t afford to sleep because our opportunity will end up someone else’s just because you needed to close your eyes for a second,” Jayson said. “We are on the grind everyday. And, even when we get a deal, we’ll still be promoting ourselves on a daily basis just as much as we are now.”

AB grew up as a popular athlete and is familiar with the spotlight. He is the smooth, yet unpredictable element of the group, usually contributing a melodic laid-back tone to SVA. Alternating from an easygoing "mack" type to a wild, comedic jokester, his creative spontaneity makes the work fun. Behind the scenes, AB is the ear of the group. He’s on top of industry trends so that SVA knows, firsthand, what's hot and what’s about to happen.

Before they discovered EPMD and De La Soul on the radio as elementary school students, they were already writing poems and short stories since childhood. Raised in southern California AB, RJ and Jayson thrived in steadily challenging yet encouraging environments. Although the guys didn’t meet each other until adulthood, each was just as much influenced by The Beastie Boys and Run DMC as the other. The guys naturally exerted a strong influence on each other’s creative development and immediately locked themselves in a studio and began writing and producing songs together. They looked around and saw how predictable the Hip Hop world had become. They knew that they needed to be heard by someone who understood their new thing.

SVA persisted in pursuing their dream, unaffected by the difficulty that comes with that duty. Rising to the challenge, they took their CD to the streets of southern California and decided to personally endorse and sell their own album. All the while, SVA continues to write songs, record, and maintain their contacts with artists, managers, producers and record label representatives. They caught the attention of Los Angeles’ Power 106 where they still do promo drops on air for the station. They’ve performed at well-known venues in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami and Long Beach. After one year and 15,000 albums sold, SVA remains motivated to prove their worthiness of a legit record deal.

Jayson said, “Individually and collectively, our goal is to succeed making music and influencing audiences the way we’ve been influenced to do what we’re doing right now. We each bring a unique element to SVA and it all fuses together in the distinctive style and sound of a young, hard-working, relentless group; a group that is not only loyal to its individual members and the work, but to the game.” AB added, “It’s been a struggle trying to break into the industry, but we were made for this fight.”
