Alright guys, yes this one is a bit more commercial than usual ... well it’s downright pop rock is what it is. But! – I have been know to stray out into the atmosphere once in a while to find you something you may not normally look up, or that wouldn’t find it’s way onto your downtempo radar. This is a really well produced (the HUGE Trevor Horn), and damn well written record. Captain have been playing small clubs in UK, and Europe for a few years now, honing their sound and polishing their songs. Getting ready for this release of perfect pop loveliness. I hear a large influence from Prefab Sprout in their sound and quirkily structured diddy’s.
Rik Flynn and Clare Szembek voices meld together in a one in a million combination. To create some of the most satisfying melodies I have heard on a pop record in years. The songs go from quiet melancholy to emotive and powerful guitar driven soundscapes.
I have some guilty pleasures when it comes to pop rock. Coldplay, Keane, and now Captain are added to my list. Give them a try and you may find they win you over too.
