WARNING this one is WAY off the path from the other picks this time, but trust me, it is worth checking out.
Mos Def in my top 10 from last year. Ray’s voice is simply hypnotising. His sense of melody feels timeless and deeply personal. He crafts songs from a deep and vulnerable place inside that many songwriters only dream of touching. Some might say the record is over produced… but I just love all the orchestration and density it creates. The strings on this record make the songs feel rich and sort of sentimental to me...in a good way obviously. Do me a favour though… just skip track one. Nothing against Ray but it feels out of place in an otherwise brilliantly emotional and moving selection of songs. Highly Recommended!
