DJWags Picks December 18 2006

I know, I know, I’ve been away from you for a while guys, I am sorry for dropping off the map so long! But I am back, and I have got some Downtempo gold to recommend to ya. Still living here in London, and travelling all a round Europe digging up the best stuff I can find. As you may or may not have come to know, I have a sickness, a wonderful and glorious sickness for collecting all the coolest Downtempo music I can lay my hands on. I dig and I dig, until my fingers turn a scary shade of grey, to find the one track that has always hidden just beyond my awareness or grasp. If you have not had the pleasure of a good Vinyl hunting trip over here in London? I highly recommend it!! Bring a stack of British Sterling and a large bag to stow your goodies. Cause they don’t except American Express, and you will most likely go nutzo like me and find way too much to carry in your greedy little mitts!

I am glad to have the chance yet again to pass along some of my favourites to you, and much joy fill my heart to think that you may go out and get some of these groovy finds and enjoy as much as I do.

TALC "Modern Sleepover"

I really love this song, it reminds me of growing up in the 70’s listening to bands like Steely Dan, ELO, even a bit of Chicago and the like. When that kind of Jazzy romantic epic rock was all the rage! Sweet retro sounds man, "vocoder" and all. Harmonies float over organ and strumming rhythm guitar with touches of horns.. Way too cool for description. If you’re a downtempo freak like me, but always looking for something a bit off centre (lets face it, the chill out scene is getting a little “same ol same ol right?) … Well this is what you might be looking for to save your latest mix from slipping into chillout doldrums hell. I am not a huge fan of the full-length record these guys put out this year. The two tracks on this 12” ep (B side is called “Dads Tired”) are the standouts for me.

Grab it and sink into your old orange 70’s lounge chair, slap on those huge headphones, sink your toes into the green shag rug, and get ready for some good old 70’s inspired rock bliss…
