Here is another group that seems to have rediscovered some of the best components of the chilled out rock scene in the 70’s. They seem to have locked themselves in a room with their dads soft rock collection and didn’t come out until they had all the songs written for this record. This is not a bad thing either. I love bands like Emerson Lake and Palmer, Gerry Rafferty, Little River Band, Ambrosia, and again Steely Dan. I think the Beauty Room has managed to re-capture the sound of that era quite well, with just enough modern touch to keep you in the year 2006. The first track “Soul Horizon” is sublimely simple but deeply soulful as well. The harmonies, float over this succulent acoustic guitar with a great retro chorus effect … it hooked me on the first listen. The rest of the record follows this stand out track very well. Track 3 Burn My Bridges” is a sweet homage to Steely Dan of the “AJA” school of their sound. Harmonious, with some of the most hopeful lyrics about letting go and stepping into the future with blind faith and trust of the heart… Hey come on... you know by now that I am a huge corny bastard. So sue me …
