Zero 7
“The Garden”

2006 Atlantic / WEA

Henry Binns and Sam Hardacker do it again! Due for release May 28th here in the UK, and June 6th in the States, Zero7 come out with another beautiful record to add to their collection of productions. Sia joins them again on this record, Thank God! She is such a great talent, and a match made in heaven for Zero7’s quintessential soulful sound. Her lyrics are wonderfully quirky and original. Her voice has a sultry and bluesy feel that no one else in the businesses can match, period. In a genius move Jose Gonzalez joins them in the studio this time around. Gonzalez adds a quiet, smooth folksy grace to many of the tracks. This combined with the fact that this record was mixed by Phil Brown, who has worked with such legends as the Rolling Stones, Brian Eno and Talk Talk, many songs have a great classic almost 60’s sound to them. I often wondered while listening to this album, if Emerson Lake and Palmer where to make an electronic downtempo record, wouldn’t it sound like this? This seems most apparent on track 1 “Features” Sia skating and riffing over this amazing distorted 70’s sounding guitar solo, man did they bring Joe Walsh into the studio too? I wonder. Really awesome stuff … hands down one of the best groups working in this genre of music today. I would be surprised if this was not considered one of the best records of 2006. Oh, and get in line folks, Zero7 are going on tour very soon!
