The Funky Lowlives
"Cartouche"
Stereo Deluxe (Germany) -2002
Fun and Funky. Great latin tinged downtempo. If you have not found these guys yet...now you have.
Tom & Joyce
"Partir"

Yello (France) -2002
Mello new Bossa with a very authentic feel. Beautiful guitar and wonderful vocal melodies here I really recomend this one for late eavening blissing or early morning breakfast in bed. It goes both ways.
Bobby Hughes Combination
"NHU Golden Era"

Stereo Deluxe (Germany) -2002
This is a hard to find "Gem" vary hard to pin down one specific influence but, funky and smooth. Has a bit of "kitsch" to it that works very well here.
Damien Rice
"O"

Damien Rice Music -2002
This ones a little off the beaten 'Downtempo' Track but well worth the effort. Damien is a rare combination of talent intelligence and soul. All in the guise of a slightly angry little folk singer. Seriously his music will reach down deep and tap at your core. I sometimes run off the Downtempo path wildly screaming nonsensical pontifications but this time run screaming with me and you may like it as much as I do.
Break N' Bossa Chapter 5
Various Artist Compilation
Schema Records (Italy) -2002
Cool new Bossa Grooves! This is a double CD so it's a great bargain and the best in the series. If you love this one check out 1, 2, 3, and 4...all great!
The Amalgamation of Soundz
"Alone" 12"
Compost Records (Germany) -2002
I must say many more people need to know the brilliance of the Amalgamation of Soundz. If you have any of the Compost records compilations you may already know what I mean. These folks have it down to a science. Mid and Downtempo grooves abound here. Danceable and Loungable at the same time. Cool right? Nuff said...check it!
Lonnie Liston Smith
"Reflections of a Golden Dream"
Flying Dutchman/ RCA -1976 (*reissued on CD 2002)
This guy was doin' it way back in the seventies. Downtempo soul grooves that soothe the funky soul! Lots of folks have been sampling his sweetness for years now, including LTJ Bukem to name just one. I love slipping this one in with the "New" for a nice blend. I 've had people ask me ..."is this that new Compost records artist ..." so that tells me it still holds up. Take a trip back and take a step forward. Go find it.
Kruder & Dorfmiester
"The K&D Sessions"
K&! Records/ G-Stoned Germany) -1998
Not so long ago in a land far far away. Two stoned out dudes got all there records together and got "Dialed In:" and the rest is history. I would say that K&D along with Massive attack are very responsible for the state of the electronic music scene today not to mention Downtempo music. Pay homage and get this record they are owed!
Thievery Corporation
"DJ Kicks"
K7! Records (Germany) - 1999
I love these guys! I have seen them live 4 times and can't wait for them to come back. They have influenced me more than anyone else in the Downtempo scene. They are the masters of cool. This record is a compilation or mix record with just a few of their own thrown in, but it is all with the signature Thievery "Sound" and feel. I listen to this CD so much I have 2 so when one wares out I have another ready to go.
Johnny Frigo
"Collected Works"
Luv N' Haight/ Ubiquity Records -2002
Johnny who?! Please settle down people. This is one of those records I heard about from a friend but was unsure about. Until I put it in and the large Grin appeared on my face. I love a good surprise and so will you. Surprisingly "current" in it's sound and grooves.
